Hi. Welcome!

'anjum' is the plural of the Arabic word 'najm', meaning
star, planet, or (generic) heavenly body. Both words are
used as masculine names.
Another related word is 'nujoom', which means "astrology"
when used in the singular and 'anjum', when used in the
plural. 'nujoomi' means "astrologer".
With that out of the way, I have some questions of my own :))
I know that the practice of astrology is frowned upon in
many circles because, among other things, those guys claim
to know far more than they're supposed to be capable of.
However, astronomy is generally accepted as a "respectable"
science. So ... what are the words for "astronomy" and
"astronomer"?

Dear Yogesh namaste!
Welcome to alup! I hope you will make it one of your regular :stops:
in your literary :travels:
:anjum: is the plural of :najm: which means :a star: so :anjum:
obviously means :stars: It is a common name for Muslim girls and
sometimes for boys also! Why someone will be named :stars: (a plural)
and not just :star: is anyone's guess! The famous Urdu poet Iqbal
wrote:
urooj.e.aadam.e.Khaakee se anjum sehme jaate haiN
k yeh TooTaa huaa taara mah.e.kaamil na ban jaaye!

I might be wrong, but hey its worth a try. As far as I know, Astronomy
means "hai'at" (n. fem) and an astronomer is called: "hai'at-dAn". I also
read on some site that astronomy also means "ilm-ul-najuum" (doesnt "najoom"
also mean the same thing as "anjum" that is plural of stars?).
