Ghalib ne bulandii kaa safar mujh ko sikhaayaa
Hali ne muravvat kaa sabaq yaad dilaayaa
Iqbal ne aa'iinah-i-Haq mujh ko dikhaayaa
Momin ne sajaa'ii mere KHvaaboN kii Havelii
Urdu hai meraa naam maiN Khusrau kii pahelii

hai Zauq kii 'azmat kih diye mujh ko sahaare
Chakbast kii ulfat ne mere Khvaab saNvaare
Faani ne sajaa'e merii palkoN pih sitaare

kyuN mujh ko banaate ho ta'assub kaa nishaanah

** I always thought that only a female could have a "sahelii". Should
the poet have incorporated a female poet here instead of Ghalib?

Yes, "girl-friend" of a girl/woman, NOT a man. And we all know Ghalib
was a man!

I think the meaning of Fo(e) is obvious. And a fo(e)-male has got to
be a female!:-)

Seriously, I think Platts is talking nonsense. Among other meanings is
also listed 'a concubine' This is utter bakwaas.

I have to admit this has come to me as a surprise too. But we all know
what "sahelii" means. It means a girl or woman's friend who is also a
girl or a woman.
