Not a very well known poet but that may be my ignorance. However, the
ghazal has been rendered beautifully by Farida Khanum. One of my
favourites. :-)

dil jalaane kii baat karate ho
aashiyaane kii baat karate ho

saarii duniyaa ke ra.nj-o-Gam dekar
muskuraane kii baat karate ho

ham ko apanii Khabar nahii.n yaaro
tum zamaane kii baat karate ho

zikr meraa sunaa to chi.D ke kahaa
kis diivaane kii baat karate ho

I am sure this is not the complete ghazal. Can someone complete it?

Yes this is a beautiful gazal of early 1970's from a relatively unknown poet.
Noor Jehan has also sung it. An additional shair is:

Haadisa tha gujar gaya hoga!
Kiskay jaanay ki baat kartay ho.

it is a beautiful example of lukhnawi style of classical ghazal,
well balanced metre in all the misras of all the shers,
easy Urdu ( that's more dahalvi in style)
but absolutely no philosphical thought,
good grip on the language; especially the sher about "hadisa hai guzar
gayaa ho go...."

Thanks Kashif for your thoughts on this important aspect of Urdu poetry. The
world of Urdu poetry has at times seemed divisible into two distinct schools of
thought. We have a group of poets whose poetry is steeped deeply into
philosophy often embellished with difficult jargon, Persian terms and, in some
cases, quite obscure thoughts. At the other end of the spectrum we have poets
whose poetry is quite simple, down to the level of the layman. Their command
over the language is still good. Both have their place in this beautiful
language.
Take the case of Arzoo Lucknavi as an example. He will not be placed in the
same category as Galib and Josh. Yet his poetry is impressive in its simplicity
and certainly poets like him have added to the popularity of Urdu poetry in
appealing to people like me who do not always grasp the hidden meanings.
