I am including a link to an article penned by Prof. C. M. Naim in the
Economic & Political Weekly, April 27, 2013 -- the article will speak
for itself. The following link leads to a PDF file of 8 pages

** Link courtesy: Ali Minai **

tinyurl.com/hasrat-krishna [ please attach the suffix http:// if
needed ]

I think it will be interesting to some, if not a majority of ALUP
members.

Rajiv Sahib:

Many thanks for this link! The Professor writes very well.

I was completely unaware of this aspect (love of Krishna) of Hasrat Mohani's life. It was not mentioned in the short biographical notes in KC Kanda's book.

Nor do I remember seeing it in the depiction of his life in the TV series "Kahkashan", which can be found on youtube, but that may be just a failure of memory on my part. That show, which was produced by Sardar Jafri, shows Hasrat Mohani grinding corn, as described in the Professor's article. Here is a link to part 1 of the Hasrat Mohani bio (there are 6 parts altogether): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GU_bRLi-Xc

Thanks for that link, Nagesh sahib. I think I have gone through all of
the Kahkashan series online in the past -- but also remember being
completely dissatisfied with the quality of the production, a personal
opinion of course -- though I guess it does accomplish the job of
exposing the public to these names in Urdu literature.

Just FYI - I have been made aware of the fact that there is another
series currently in the "shooting" stage, under the direction of
Indian DD TV -- this series will be called "'The Greats of Urdu
Literature" apparently. S.R. Farooqi sahib, Rakhshanda Jalil sahiba,
etc. have been hired as "consultants" for this series. I do not have a
date on the completion or release, but they had been shooting in
Aligarh starting April 05, 2013.

RC

For those that are in India and can keep up with this channel, please
do try and record the series if possible and share your opinions on
the series as well.
