A friend of mine was looking for some shers on Eid and Ramzaan.I will
be grateful if the members can cite someexamples.
Thank you.
Bhavana
Here`s one.
"sab se milay wo seena-ba-seenaa, ham se milaayaa Khaalii Haath
Eid ke din, jo such puuChho tau, Eid manaayii logoN ne!"
======================================================
Here is another Bhavana jii,
iftaar-i-saum kii jise kuchh dast-gaah ho
us shaKHs ko zaruur hai rozah rakhaa kare
jis paas rozah khol ke khaane ko kuchh nah ho
rozah agar nah khaa'e to naa-chaar kyaa kare
Mirza Ghalib
Whoever has the ability to break a fast
By all means he should keep a fast
One who has nothing to eat after breaking fast
What should the poor soul do but to eat* the fast
* i.e not fast at all! yaad rakhiye kih tamaam din bhuukaa rahne ke
ba'd rozah kholte vaqt achchhe achche khaane khaane ko jii chaahtaa
hai!!
Naseer
In earlier days, taunts would be aimed at those people who would
not observe the Ramzan fast without any justifiable reason. At
times, these jibes would be in verse. I recall one such :
Roza~KHoroN ki 'ajab duha-ii hai
PhaTi jooti, phaTi razaa-ii hai
Roza~KHor = Literally, those who eat or consume the "roza" itself.
In other words, those who do not observe the fast.

This reminds me of the cleverly naughty she'r by Ghalib:
jis paas roza khol ke khaane ko kuchh na ho
roza agar na khaaye to naachaar kyaa kare!

If we have to include films songs too, then one more
such comes to mind :
"Eid ka din tere bin hai pheeka
Aa ja aa ja ke din hai KHushi ka"
It is from the 1958 film "Sohni Mahiwal" which had some
great music by the late Naushad.
