urdustan.com completes four years of operation.

urdustan.com, the Urdu language website, has become the oldest Urdu
website in the world by continue to exist even after four years of
operation. While many sites have come and gone, urdustan has managed to
continuously update itself months after months for four years now.

Urdustan started its life as ANAM or A Nazm A Month and continued to
grow since early days of 1997 to become urdustan.com on 13th August
1998. As the internet grew and number of Urdu lovers grew on the net,
urdustan.com was there to serve their needs and connect one Urdu lover
to other. Community feelings has been in the forefront of urdustan since
its beginning and member of urdustan are called urdustani. Urdustan
message board and chat is the place where urdustanis from different
parts of the globe come and discuss poetry, prose, religion or to just
share their sorrow and happiness. The URL for urdustan message board is
http://mehfil.urdustan.net

Urdustan has raised the quality of the Urdu literature on the web by
providing the best of Urdu nazms every month in its A Nazm A Month
section ( www.urdustan.com/anam ) which feature a quality Urdu nazm
written on the topic of current affairs. The nazms covers these diverse
topics as festivals, religions, politics, sports among others.

While there is lot of Urdu poetry on the web, urdustan is fulfilling the
dearth of quality Urdu prose on the web by its mazameen section (
www.urdustan.com/mazameen) which features articles written by submitted
by its visitors. Mazameen section is edited by Saradar Jahangir, a
famous story writer from Pakistan. Urdustan also publishes regular
column on world politics by Haider Qureshi , famous poet and writer
based in Germany.

Not to get all serious, tanz-o-mazaah section ( www.urdustan.com/mazaah)
has highly selected mazaahiya shaayri and articles from eminent writers
and some from urdustan visitors. Recognizing the need for Urdu audio on
the web, awaaz section ( www.urdustan.com/aawaz) features audio in
different topics to introduce the real beauty of Urdu, which are spoken
words.

The future plans for urdustan is to publish a book containing
contribution made to the site in the form of poetry and articles by its
visitors. A children's section is also in the plans.

Urdustan is based in San Diego, USA, but it is managed by a group of
volunteers who are based in all the continents of the world. Urdustan is
not funded or affiliated by any organization but all the expenses in the
form of time and money are borne by the volunteers themselves.

urdustan.com thanks all the volunteers and visitors for making urdustan
a success!

shukriya
