Urdu Translations Of English Language Poems

Naazireen,

In the past, I had posted Urdu translations (in verse)
of some English language poems. Offhand, I recall
Shelley's "Ode To The West Wind", Southey's "Cascades of
Lodore", etc. Also, "Father William".

Here is one more :

The original poem is by an American poet, by the name of
Peter Alexander McWilliams. He was born in Detroit,
Michigan State (USA), on the 5th August, 1949 and died in
Californis on the 14th June, 2000 --- at a very young age of
just 50 years.

I have his poem, but I am not sure of its original title ---
maybe it is "Surviving The Loss Of A Love".

Here is the original poem


All I know is that
I love you,
I want you,
Some times I need you
You are someone
And being with you
Something I long for
And I love, that's all I know



And here is the Urdu translation :


MaiN to bas yeh jaanooN hooN
MaiN tum se mohabbat karta hooN
MaiN to tum ko chaahooN hooN
Mujhe tumhaari zaroorat hai
Tum hii to ik aisii ho
Saath tumhaara chaahooN hooN
MaiN to bas yeh jaanooN hooN
Ke maiN tum se mohabbat karta hooN

The translation may not be very elegant but,
at least, someone has made an attempt. And,
maybe, we should appreciate that.


The Urdu poet is one 'Ali Tajammul Waasti.

In early 1963, on or around 27th March, an
Indian film (with the title of "Leader" was
released, starring Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala.
It had music by Syed Naushad Ali Saheb and lyrics
were penned by Shakeel Badayuni. Sadly, bot of them
are no more. But, fortunately, both the leading
stars are still with us --- Dilip Kumar is 98 years
old, and Vyjayanthimala is about 88. Let us wish them
well........

In the above film, there was a duet, sung by
Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar. It is a sort of
coquettish song, very nicely picturised. Only the
lines filmed on Dilip Kumar are being given below :

Kuchh kehte huwe bhi Darta hoN

I had seen the film in Bombay's Maratha Mandir Cinema,
which was a very elegant and luxurious Hall. Maybe that
too has since been converted into a Multiplex........
