I specially enjoyed Vilay Kumar's collection of she'ers on the Urdu
language.Specially the one by Anand Narayan Mulla.
Vijay saheb, if I may be so bold I think there were a few errors in
that she'er. The correct version is:
" kya samajh sakte haiN ghamaR hindi aur Urdu KA farq
Bhang ke kullhaR kahan saihba ke paimane kahaN."
Anand Narayan Mulla's works are not well known. Here is a ghazal by
him that some of you may not have heard.
1 Jaane afsaana yahi kucch bhi ho afsane ka naam
zindagi hai dil ki dharkan tez ho jaane ka naam
2. qatra qatra zindagi ke zehr ka peena hai gham
Aur khushi hai do ghari pi kar bahek jane ka naaam
3. intizaare fasl gul men kho chuke aankhon ka noor
aur bahare baagh leti he nahin aane ka naam
4. taab-e- naakami nahin to aarzoo karta hai kya
aarzoo hai mauj ke sahil se takrane ka naam
5. aaj too kal aur koi hoga sadre bazm-e-mai
saqia tujh se nahin ham se hai maikhane ka naam
6. waqif-e mulla na thi bazm-e-khirad yeh tai hua
ho na ho yeh hai kisi mashhoor dewane ka naam
comments welcome

Vah! Vah! Such beauty in the wasteland! I have been so disappointed
with ALUP these past few days: all I see is posts from pornographers.
I'm not a prude, but I feel deceived when I see such posts on ALUP.
Where do we go for Urdu poetry? Alt.sex? I'm resigned to this constant
interruption of our conversations, but I wish there was something that
could be done.
Anyway, those of you who liked the ghazal posted by Arshad Sahib might
also like the following ghazal by Faiz. I post a few asha'ar from
memory; corrections are welcome.
rang pairAhan ka khushboo zulf lehrAne ka nAm
mausam-e-gul hai tumhAre bAm par Ane ka nAm
muhtasib ki khair UNchA hai isi ki faiz se
rind ka, saqi ka, khum ka, mai ka, paimAne ka nAm
Faiz unko hai taqAzA-e-vafA hamse jinheN
AshnA ke nam se pyArA hai begAne ka nAm
Iqbal Bano has sung this beautifully. I also have a recording of this
in Faiz Sahib's voice, and you can hear every comma Iput in.
Thanks, Arshad Sahib, for bringing ALUP back to life.
Nagesh
Ab nahin lete pari-ruh zulf bikhrAne ka nAm

My apologies. It is Barakat Alavi and not Alavi Bakhtar.

Nagesh Sahib, let me join you in welcoming Arshad Sahib and thanking him
for posting Mulla's ghazal.
If you want to avoid pornographic postings, you might think of accessing
ALUP through deja.com, which filters them out. Unfortunately you will
still have irrelevant postings of many aspiring English language poets,
but one can ignore those.
