"USAY KEHNA"
Usay kehna December aagaya hay!
December kay guzartay hi baras ik aur mazi ki ghupa maiN doob jaaye ga
usay kehna December laut aay ga
magar jo khoon sojaayega jismoN maiN na jaayega
usay kehna hawaiN sard haiN aur zindagi kay kohray dewaroN maiN larzaaN haiN
usay kehna shagofay tehnion maiN so rahay haiN
aur un par barf ki chadar bichi hay
usay kehna agar sooraj na niklay ga
to kaisay barf pighlay gi
usay kehna kay laut aaye!!

"Let her know"
Let her know that it is December
the harbinger of a year lost in the irretrieveable depths of Past
Let her know that December can still come
but those emotions like blood frozen
will never warm up my life again
Let her know that in bitterly cold winds
life quivers like shadows on a wall
Let her know that the rose buds are hibernating
waiting for the warmth of love
to melt away the snow-clad twigs
to make them blossom again
Let her come back!!

Vah! Very beauutiful! I do appreciate your eminently sensible and
readable translations.

I have just obtained a copy of translations of Hafez's gahzals. One
side has the original Persian text and one side has the English
translation. I must say that I prefer your explanations of Urdu ghazals
to the more prosaic translations of hte books I have read.

I'm waiting for a second book (The Dance of Life) that has the orginal
Persian tranliterated, and I'll post something from it when I have it.
An interesting feature of the first book is its rather detailed
discussion f hte Sufi/mystic background for this form of poetry.

For those who are interested, see the web page www.mage.com for an
interesting collection of Persian books and music.
