Looking for opinions on both of these. I'm also not sure of Pimsleur.
Anyhow my husband and I would really like to learn spanish. I'm
looking for something on audio that can help us to getting started on
the road of eventually speaking fluently (soon). We have several
customers who are from Mexico and various parts of Latin America.
Learning spanish would be very good for us. I appreciate the
feedback.

I recommend Power-Glide, but I think Platiquemos
is good. But if you really want fluency, I'd
say go to the school in Cuernavaca that uses
the Platiquemos materials. It's been a while
since I checked, but I seem to remember it being
far less expensive than the equivalent amount
of training at a state Univ. in Indiana.

If you want to work on your own, I'd say
Power-Glide. Platiquemos works better with
a teacher to drill you.

I know nothing about Thomas, and not much about Pimsleur.

If you are actually considering spending "real money"
I can tell you about some more effective but more expensive
methods. (Curran, Lozanov, Rassias, Gattegno--if you want
to do a web search)

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I'll check out Power-Glide and
see what it's about. However, I do wish we could go to school in
Cuernavaca, but that's not possible at the moment. But I am looking
for fluency, and not spending a whole lot of money right now:)

I know nothing of Platiquemos but I have recently borrowed the Michel Thomas
course from my local library and am absolutely hooked. I spend a couple of
hours a day in the car and listen to the CD's.

Michel's method of teaching is very informal with no writing or memorising
but things have an uncanny way of sinking in. Following my recommendation
several friends at work are also using the course and we have fun trying to
use Spanish in the office.

I have now started hanging around this newsgroup translating peoples
messages to myself and have also even had a go at a few Spanish newspapers
online.

Why not check out your local library before you commit yourself to a big
outlay (Michel Thomas is £60 on cd)
