reminded me of [il miglior fabbro.]

i've always wondered...
How much Italian did T.S.Eliot actually speak?
How much of Dante did he actually know by heart?

Did he take private lessons in spoken Italian ?

How many hours of face-to-face conversation did he have with Joyce?

Well, three occur to me.

1. That scene in "2001 Space Odyssey" when the megalith-touched ape
beats his rival to death with a bone, hurls it in the air and it turns
into a space-station.
And the music goes from the intro to Richard Strauss' Also Sprach
Zarathustra into Johann Strauss' Beautiful Blue Danube Waltz.

2. The scene in Dr No when Ursula Andress comes walking out of the sea
in a bikini; like Venus born from the waves.

3. The scene in "Byron" when the Greek soldiers carry Byron in his
coffin at Missolonghi.
