>From "A Shaft of Light", by R.H.Soriano:

Above all, Pampanga contributed its best brains to the Revolution. Larkin
asserts that:

"the Spanish repressions of 1892 involved a small number of native Pampango
elite. Only a few dedicated families such as the Alejandrinos of Arayat
and the Jovens of Bacolor actively supported the Propagandists and in
general, the problem of colonial policy and practice merited little
attention in the province."

This is half truth. A mere enumeration of those who participated actively
in the Propaganda movement in Spain in the 1800s up to the revolution in
1901, in addition to the members of the Consititutional Convention in
Malolos, the members of the National Congress in San Isidro and Tarlac, and
the Cabinet members who were appointed by President Aguinaldo, prove that
Larkin's informatin from primary sources, interviews, and local documents,
could have been made more comprehensive and encompassing. At times, the
persons interviewed by Larkin spoke glowingly of their friends and
relatives and forfot those who were not visible in the province because
they were either imprisoned of in distant corners of the south. Some
revolutionists managed to stay home and remain visible in the province
becuase Spanish authorities did not consider them very dangerous to the
Spanish Crown. Some were only warned or threatened by the Spanish
Governor of Pampanga. Others were deported nearer home. Could they have
been more dedicated revolutionists than those who lost their lives, who
were imprisoned or deported to faraway lands and in the process suffered
penury? The following is the list of many men of Pampanga who contributed
to the revolution and to the establishment of a liberal form of government
there:

Pedro Abad Santos, San Fernando;
Joaquin, Jose and Mariano Alejandrino, Arayat;
Mariano Alimurung, Bacolor;
Tranquilino Arroyo, Candaba;
Macario Bacani, Balbuena, Guagua;
Eugenio Blanco, Macabebe;
Antonio Consunji, Mariano Cunanan, Mexico;
Felix and Mariano David, Bacolor;
Mariano Dayrit, San Fernando;
Francisco Dizon, Jacobo and Praxedes Fajardo, Bacolor;
Felix Galura, Bacolor;
Macario Gamu, Joaquin Gonzales, Apalit;
Martin Gozun, Betis;
Mateo Gutierrez Ubaldo, Eduardo Gutierrez David, Bacolor;
Ramon Henzon and Mariano Vicente Henson, Angeles;
Adriana, Cecilio, Tiburcio and Procopio Hilario, Bacolor and San Fernando;
Maximino Hizon, Mexico;
Leandro Ibarra, Lubao;
Jose R. Infante, Modesto Joaquin;
Ceferino and Francisco Joven Bacolor;
Maximo Kabigting, Arayat;
Mamerto and Ruperto Lacsamana, Mexico;
Francisco and Pedro Liongson, Bacolor;
Cayetano Lopez, Magalang;
Enrique and Gregorio Macapinlac, Braulio Mendoza, Bacolor;
Marcelo Mesina, Angeles;
Juan Nepomuceno, Angeles;
Critino Ongton;
Nicolasa Dayrit Panlilio, San Fernando;
Raymundo Panlilio Gamboa, Aurelio Pineda, San Fernando;
Modesto and Cirilo Quiason, Angeles;
Manuel Ruiz, Marcel Samia, Bacolor;
Andres Serrano, Gonzalo Arceo Tan, Bacolor;
Pedro Teopaco, San Fernando;
Aurelio Tolentino, Guagua;
Roman Valdez, Bacolor;
Balbino and Valentin Ventura, Bacolor;
Benito Vergara and Macario Yap, Arayat.

Those who alleviated the suffering of soldiers or who in one way or another
did their share for the revolutionary cause included Guillermo Baron,
Florencia Halili, Filomena Hilario Gwekoh, and Inchic Lorenzo of Bacolor;
Catalino Pamintuan of Angeles and Domingo Panlilio. The greatest
financiers were: Manuel Escaler, Matea Rodriguez Sioco, Gonzalo Arceo Tan
and Macario Yap.

It will be noted that the abovementioned Pampangos who participated in the
revolutionary government were so numerous that some of them were appointed
as representatives of other provinces in the National Congresses.

...

It is time that history should record with justice the sacrifices of the
people of Pampanga for the cause of freedom!
