Cong Andro,
In reference to the above, since Apung Quitong's term ended in 1967,
who was governor after him, since you listed Valencia's term as
1962(?, must be a typo) to March 1976?

Good day!
I also have a record of Pampanga governors from 1896 to the present but
the acting governors are not listed.
Here are the governors who succeeded Honorable Governor Francisco G.
Nepomuceno:
Brigido R. Valencia - 1962- March 1976
Juanita L. Nepomuceno - 1976 - 1980
Estelito P. Mendoza - 1980 - 1986
Bren Z. Guiao - 1986 - 1995
Manuel "Lito" M. Lapid - 1995 to present
Best regards.
Andro

Good day, Marc!
It's a typo error. Brigido R. Valencia was governor from 1972 to March 1976.
He followed Francsico G. Nepomuceno whose term ended in 1971.
Please take note of the correction.
Thanks.

You're right. You have to include also his wife's 4-year term as governor
following
Brigido Valencia. After Apung Quitong completed his governatorial term he
served also
as mayor of Angeles City, is'nt it?
People from Lubao are telling me that Dominador Danan served also as acting
governor
in the '60s which I could not figure out when.
Best regards and have a nice weekend!
Andro
Good day!
If Pampanga was created as a province in Pampanga in 1571 as the first
province
organized by the Spaniards (by Adelantado Miguel de Legaspi) in Luzon, did
they
call then the head of the province as "governador"? Or was the province
then governed
directly by the Spanish Governor General sitting in Manila? I wonder if Dr.
John Larkin
or Ambeth Ocampo or other historians came across with the names of these
provincial
administrators and the dates they served.
Is there anyone in K-List who has this information?

Good day, Marc!
It looks that way. My list of Pampanga governors shows Apung Quitong's term
as 1960-1971 preceeded by Rafael Lazatin (1952-1959). This list together with
other statistical information was sent to me by Governor Lito Lapid in May,
1997.
Do you think there's a mistake in the list?
BTW, I met Lito Lapid in 1996 here in Los Angeles when he came to raise funds
for his foundation. The same with Estelito Mendoza who was our guest
speaker in
1982 when we (Circulo Pampangueno) had our induction ball. He helped raised
funds
for the Lourdes Shrine in Cabetican, Bacolor. I also met VP Joseph Estrada and
VP Laurel but no one among them for sure will remember meeting a common man
like
me.

Cong Andro,
Are saying that Apung Quitong served for a total of 12 straight years (3 terms)?
I thought that governors were limited to two terms?
Yes he served as Mayor of Angeles later. I don't remember how many terms.

In "The Province of Pampanga And Its Towns," author Mariano A. Henson
proffers a list of provincial governors (titled Alcalde Mayor and later
on Gobernador Civil) which he obviously put together from various primary
sources. It is apparent from the list that his sources were not able to
provide him with the complete list, especially between 1576 and 1800.
Paraphrasing Mariano A. Henson: Fray Gaspar de San Agustin, OSA, says
that Bacolor had an Alcalde Mayor (like Corregidor, an official, not the
island) in 1576 and Fray Casimiro Diaz says that in October 1660 Pampanga
had a Portuguese Alcalde Mayor in the person of Don Juan Gomez de Payva.
On 10 Nov 1746, in the oldest available document (in 1965) pertinent to
the Governorship of Pampanga mention was made of the Alcalde Mayor, but
neither his name nor his seat of office were given.
Thanks for reading.

Luid Abel,
Yapin pin y Agapito del Rosario qng Angeles. Y Tatang na yapin y
Isabelo del Rosario, an officer in Aguinaldo's army who later heeded El
Presidente's call for guerilla warfare, but was later caught and executed by the
Americans by hanging in Mexico, Pampanga. Have you encountered his name in any
of the books that you've been reading about the Phil-Am War.
Agapito del Rosario himself was killed by the Japanese.
Rafael del Rosario, Agapito's son, was the last mayor of the town of
Angeles and first mayor of the city of Angeles.
Thanks for reading.
