MANILA, June 04 (PNA) -- Basketball Association of the
Philippines (BAP) president Freddie Jalasco today advised his
estranged wife Cristy Ramos to abide by the decision of the
International Olympic Committee (IOC), recognizing Celso Dayrit as
the new president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).
"The IOC has decided. Let's abide by the decision because the
POC is under the IOC. Let's do what is the best for Philippine
sports," said Jalasco in today's SCOOP sa Kamayan sports session.
Represented by secretary-general Graham Lim, the BAP was among
the majority 22 National Sports Associations (NSAs) which voted for
no confidence on Cristy's leadership in the Extraordinary General
Assembly meeting on May 10.
Jalasco said the BAP board granted his request to inhibit
himself from voting in the confidende vote for "delicadeza" purpose.
"In fairness, they (BAP board) decided to go to the will of
majority para hindi raw ako maipit," he explained.
Jalasco, however, still believed that Ramos will be able to
recover from the POC trouble in due time.
"I think alam naman niya ang kanyang pinasukan. She is matured
enough to tackle this problem. Let's just wait what will happen,"
said Jalasco.
Ramos remained firm on her decision not to give up the fight
despite a letter of IOC supremo Juan Antonio Samaranch to President
Joseph Estrada, formally recognizing Dayrit as the new duly elected
president of the POC based on reports made by Olympic Council of Asia
(OCA) executive director Muttaleb Ahmed and IOC representative to the
Philippines Frank Elizalde.
Ramos said that she would seek the audience of the IOC president
because she believed that Ahmed and Elizalde failed to report all the
details that transpired in the proceedings of the general assembly
meeting.
"Essentialy, I felt that they (Ahmed and Elizalde) did not
report that there was actually a legal impediment in the whole
proceedings. The reports they made was rather bias and one sided,"
said Ramos.
Ramos added she would bring all her strong legal basis which
supports her battle when she flies to Luassane, Switzerland in no
given date.
"I'm upholding the law of the land. Nobody's above the
Philippine law even the foreign nationals. I keep on fighting
because since day one of this issue, they (Dayrit group) haven't
given me due process," she explained.(PNA)
