pn: Dagupan Mayor congressman appeal for sobriety

DAGUPAN CITY, March 8 (PNA)--The city mayor of Dagupan and the
congressman of the fourth district of Pangasinan have appealed to the
warring families in the island barangay of Pugaro here for sobriety
to prevent any more bloodshed in the city.
The appeal was made separately by Mayor Alipio F. Fernandez, Jr.
and Rep. Benjamin Lim in the face of violent incidents attributed to
the unending conflict between the Garcia and de la Cruz families in
barangay Pugaro.
The conflict between the two families may have already resulted in
three unsolved violent incidents in less than one month which alarmed
the peaceful residents of Dagupan.
Mayor Fernandez called on those who may have a hand in these
killings to surrender peacefully to him. He guaranteed the security
of those who may want to surrender and face the bar of justice.
First one to be brutally killed last February 10 was the
controversial Crispin "Boy" Garcia who was gunned down by still
unidentified assassins at the corner of A.B. Fernandez Avenue East
and PNR road. He was from Pugaro.
Exactly two weeks later, Assistant City Engineer Ismael de la
Cruz, also of barangay Pugaro, was gunned down together with his
bodyguard, PO3 Wilfredo Sanoy, at the corner of A.B. Fernandez West
and Careenan street. De la Cruz remains in coma at Villaflor General
Hospital.
Only last Wednesday, a close associate and relative of the late
Garcia was mercilessly killed in barangay Pugaro. The killer of
Conrito Gonzales escaped under cover of darkness.
Rep. Lim, in an interview over local radio station DZSD, went to
the extent of calling the resignation of Superintendent and police
chief Wendy Rosario for the deteriorating peace and order situation
in the city.
Lim deplored the fact that while the supposed gunmen in the
assassination attempt on de la Cruz and Sanoy were already
identified, nobody was arrested yet.
Lim is supporting the initiative of Mayor Fernandez to reconcile
both the Garcia and de la Cruz families to preserve the peace in
