Iloilo City, April 20 (PNA)- The Iloilo Provincial board yesterday
passed a resolution adopting the song entitled "Banwang Pinili" as its
provincial hymn.
The song which was a winning piece with a prize of P30,000 in the
search launched by the provincial government was composed by Benny
Castillon with the music by Mr. Gerardo Muyuela and himself.
The lyrics of this song was in Hiligaynon (the native tongue of
Iloilo) reminding the people of their noble ancestry and invoking them
to be proud of it. 1st stanza:
Iloilo, Iloilo
Sa dughan mo nabalay
Dungganon nga maragtas
Katam-is sang binalaybay
Ang imo nga pulong
Malulot nga ambahanon
Laylay sang paghimakas
Bahanding palanublion.
Chorus:
Iloilo, Iloilo
Ikaw ang banwang pinili
Bugay sang kahitaasan
Ugat sang akon kabuhi
Iloilo, Iloilo
Ikaw ang banwang hamili
Nahamut-an sa amon gadapit
Pag-angkon sang kalinungan
Padulong sa kauswagan
Second stanza:
Ang amo nga handum
Sa kapatagan ginpanggas
Singgit sang kahilwayan
Ginpasad mo sa Kabukiran
Balud sang dugo
Sadtong mga baganihan
Bilidhon nga manggad
Buhi nga handumanan.
Second district Boardmember Rodolfo Cabado, who sponsored the
resolution adopting this song as the provincial hymn, said that this
will be used in solemn ceremonies of the provincial capitol.
When the search was launched last year, there were 21 entries which
were downsized to five finalist. These were Iloilo Pangga Ka Namon;
Iloilo Higugma-on Ta; Matahum Ka, O Iloilo; and Banwang Pinili which was
the winning piece.
Iloilo province last year also adopted the "Marcha Libertador" as its
official march song. This song was composed by the brother of Gen.
Martin T. Delgado who was governor of the first Civil government in
Iloilo. (PNA) fpv/MNN/NAG/ AJP/:
