CEBU CITY, JULY 9 (PNA) - The bodies of a five-year-old boy and
his three-year-old brother Wednesday were found floating in the murky
Butuanon river in Sitio Bacayan, Talamban, Cebu City.
Bacayan tanods first discovered the body of three-year-old Neil
Janssen Adobo at 6:50 a.m.
An hour later, tanods discovered the body of five-year-old Neil
Michael stuck on the muddy riverbed.
The boys' father, Miguel, said his sons were last seen alive
Tuesday afternoon, playing near their house in Villa Leyson in
Bacayan.
Around 5:30 p.m., playmates saw the two boys walking towards the
river, 300 meters away from their residence.
That was the last time Villa Leyson residents saw the boys alive.
The river is 30 feet wide and is shallow, except for several
portions that grow deep especially when it rains.
It is in these portions where residents sometimes swim, but only
when it rains. The water gets murky when the sun is out.
Homicide police said they saw no signs of foul play. "It was an
accident," the father said.
The absence of foul play was also affirmed by medico-legal officer
Jesus Cerna, who conducted an autopsy on the bodies. (PNA)
