CEBU CITY, June 28 (PNA) - Supt. Napoleon Sesante, who survived
the sinking of a passenger ferry last year, assumed Saturday as the new
acting chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), as Supt. Danilo
Mangila's stint ended.

Sesante 45, graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in
1976 and became a lawyer in 1989.

He was promoted to superintendent in July 1992.

Sesante has had around 50 assignments in different parts of the
country, including being the regional director of the Criminal
Investigation and Detection Office 10.

His last assignment before CCPO was as chief of the human
resource development section of the Police Regional Office 7.

He has also received various awards, including Police District
Commuander of the Year in 1993.

He was commended for his heroism during the sinking of the MV
Princess of the Orient in September 1998.

Minutes before the boat sank, Sesante maintained presence of
mind and called his security aide and driver Vince Ceballos, who was in
Quezon city.

He told Ceballos to contact any government agency or the media
about the danger they were in.

When they were over board, Sesante helped save other passengers.

Also because of his heroism, Sesante was nominated for the Banco
Filipino Bayaning Police award.

Sesante is a native of Boljoon, Cebu and is married to Maribel,
with whom he has four children.

He was appointed by the Police Coordinating and Advisory Council
after Mangila returned to his former assignment at the Land
Transporation Office of the National Capital Region. (PNA) fpv/wpt/EB/BH
