Y2K regional consultation slated in Cebu July 15

CEBU CITY, July 8(PNA)- The National Security Council, which is
mandated as overall in charge for contingency planning for the Y2K
problem, will conduct a regional consultation here in Central Visayas on
July 15, 1999 at the Ecotech Center, Lahug, Cebu city.

According to PNP Regional Director Danilo Flores, Chairman of
the Regional Y2K Contingency Task Force the regional consultations will
be conducted by the NSC Y2K team in coordination with the Y2K
Commission, the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC), and the
Regional Development Council (RDC).

The whole day consultation will consist of two parts.

In the forum proper, objectives and purpose will be stated as
well as the presentation of the national Y2K contingency measures and
communication plan.

In the workshop proper, work groups by province and sector will
come up with respective contingency measures, and the ROC/RDCc action on
Y2K compliance readiness and Y2K emergency preparedness.

Among the agencies involved in the conduct of the regional
consultation are the NICA, National Economic Development Authority
(NEDA), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Office of Civil Defense
(OCD), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of
Transportation and Communication (DOTC), Department of Energy (DOE),
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Health (DOH).

Some 100 participants from the government, LGUs and private
