Make the language easy for the people participating in the Iridia
project to use. (If you are the only Iridian, make it easy for
yourself, for example.) If it is too bizarre and difficult to operate,
nobody will use it, and therefore creating will have been a waste of
time.
Just one being's opinion.
I don't know how easy it is to operate, but you could also look at
existing micronational languages (Talossan comes to mind). As I
recall, it's basically Romance (?). Certainly, if other people are
going to participate and use the language, then something easy to
learn would be great -- take Interlingua or Lingua Franca Nova as a
starting point and give it just a little twist.
As it gets used, it will start to evolve and take its own shape, just
like any natural language would.

You considered creoles and pidgins, right?
Actually, I've got an idea of what I'm doing now. Thanks for the
advice. It's a bit complex, but mostly regular. If you want to see it,
go to http://www.freewebs.com/empireofiridia/index.htm and look at the
forum and ministry of culture.
I saw the site, and I actually like the premise. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, it's not too complex for people to learn is it? I tried to
reduce the declensions in the case system so that masculine and neuter
were the same and feminine and abstract similar. Do you think it will
work?
