I have a function to downscore a whole thread (by creating a
scorefile rule that matches on References:).

Is there a way to bind that to a scorefile rule, so that
a matching posting would make all follow-ups downscored?

Something functionally similar seems to be the macro "turbo-plonk.sl"
from slrn.sourceforge.net

How do you activate this function? Manually when you encounter an
article in a thread that you want to downscore?

You mentioned turbo-plonk.sl. How does what you envision differ from
what turbo-plonk.sl provides? I am trying to understand exactly what
you want.

I think turbo-plonk is more or less what I want.
