Alternative to cruched stone

I have a crushed stone roadway behind my house. At the end of this road I
built a play area with a small pool for the grandkids. The play are is
bordered with rr ties and filled with a bark mulch,swings playhouse etc.
The circular pool is set on a sand base and I'm looking for something to go
over the crushed stone roadway and around the pool perimeter to tie it all
together that would be aesthetically pleasing and also gentle on little feet
and still take utility equipment loads on the roadway. Thanks to anybody
that may have a suggestion.
