Links to Resources for Education

In the course of my surfing the Internet, I've amassed a collection of
links to resources useful to students and educators - for reference,
help with homework, research papers, class preparation and enrichment.
Now over 75 links, some to major collections and many to smaller
"niche" sites, and I'm adding new ones daily. The links are
categorized by subject area, and I check the entire list regularly to
update the URLs and clean out dead links.

Lots of people mistakenly put backslashes in URLs instead of forward
slashes, but this is the first time I've seen somone use BOTH in the
same one. Congratulations!
As I typed this the radio, on which my father was listening to a
sportscast, started playing a commercial for The Internet and other
Microsoft products. (Yes, it implied that the Internet is a Microsoft
product.) It's all downhill from here.

While browsing my httpd logs, I noticed the User-Agent field MSIE sends in
its infinite wisdom. ARGH. Do the guys at Micro$oft break standards just
have broken standards?
"Mozilla/1.22 (compatible; MSIE 2.0; Windows 95)". Really. Now User-Agent is
broken, anon FTP passwords are broken, much of HTML is broken; what next?
Sometimes I think Njetscape and Micro$oft are intentionally trying to
destroy the net.

anyone getting that is a serious geek... :p
maybe i make a program out from that and run it from a cron on "my"
web server and fix client's html files "on the fly"... then i also
could make another proggie that would rename their .htm files to
.html... ofcourse, then they could not _update_ their web pages via
ftp...

damn, i knew learning perl will pay back one day... just _think_ all
those tricks i can do now...

One thing you could do is automatic HTML validation of your clients' pages
-- run new pages through a validator and mail a warning to the author of the
page (or to you) if it doesn't validate properly... (There should be lots of
free HTML validator scripts around, in addition to the web sites that do it
for you.) Then again, a strict validator would probably reject (or at least
warn of) around 90% of pages produced with a `WYSIWYG HTML editor'... ;)

Public service... It could be helpful to them, especially if they want their
pages to be viewable by non-Mozillaers. I can imagine a Lynx/Mosaic/etc.
user mailing them a mail saying something like "your pages are broken!" or
"your pages look awful!" and your client is left wondering what's wrong...
I mean, the clients should at least know if their pages aren't displayed
properly on non-Mozilla browsers... Freedom implies responsibility, and one
should (note, should, not must) know what one is doing...
(Mozilla := Nutscape + M$IE. Since both of them call themselves Mozilla, I
shall call both of them Mozilla. *evil grin*)
