Most of the noticable damage is still to the vegetation. The wind did a
pretty good job of pruning the trees and, sadly, the blooms, so that
Key West is not as green or colorful as it was prior to this year.
Worse, there was a storm serge that covered the island with salt water.
This got into the ground water and was absorbed by many of the plants,
so of which are still dieing. Pretty mush all of the places the
visitors go have been fixed up althought there may still be workmen
palinting, etc.

The Hilton had its dock damaged and was completely replaced. The Ocen
Key suffered some roof damage which has been fixed, but the pier
outside of thier hotel was a complete write-off and is being re-built.
Estrimate is Feb. The Pier House had much of their vegetation affected
and they are replanting much of it.

Look...

...and this used to be a lush garden...

The South side of the island was hit the hardest - Higgs Beach and the
Casa marina and the Sheraton Suites, but otherwise most of the local
places seemed OK to me (as of 11/27/05). Stores etc along Simonton,
White Street and Whitehead looked pretty much normal once they got all
of the cars, washer/dryer, refrig's off the streets. They all got wet
and shorted out and had to be jettisoned. A real mess.

Where are you staying?

Staying on Truman at the Windward townhouses. Nice place...took one
for a week. Prices are about the same as a house up here on Cape Cod
during the summer. Can't wait to get back down there to warm weather.
Like to catch the Pete and Wayne show...

Just in case you haven't eaten here, try a platter or fish sandwich at
B.O.'s Fishwagon on Caroline (across from Pepe's). The food is very
good and it's just fun to eat there. You'll see what I mean.

Fan fun.
