Has anyone here ever tried mixing Heinz ketchup with Kraft "Real/New Look"
Mayonnaise?

they're a perfect couple.

It's also what endears Crab or Shrimp Louis to seafood lovers.

Why not add pickle relish and a touch of mustard and call it Secret Sauce
(or Thousand Island, or Russian dressing)?

Better yet, why not leave the ketchup unsullied and pristine? You don't
need the empty calories from the mayonnaise anyway.

Well, with pure, unadulterated ketchup, you can make paintings, soft
sculpture, artificial scabs for Halloween... all sorts of creative things.

I freely admit to mixing ketchup with things like low-cal mayonnaise,
pickle relish and mustard to suit my condimentary fancy. But I am not
especially proud of it....

BTW, anyone ever see a Japanese competitive cooking show called Iron Chef?
It's a one-hour, head-to-head battle between two chefs improvising recipes
around the host's choice of theme ingredient. Really great entertainment
-- and I was so gratified when I saw a competitor use ketchup as an
ingredient.

For some bizzare reason, my wife needed some ketchup images for a school
project (she's a teacher). I came upon this newsgroup and saw the
subject Ketchup and mayonaise... In Utah, Ketchup and mayonaise are
combined to make "fry-sauce" for french fries. Neither of us have seen
this anywhere else in our world travels...

In Belgium and some parts of the USA, people prefer plain mayonnaise for
French fry dipping. Interesting to learn that Utahans like Louis dressing
(that's what they call ketchup & mayonnaise when they pour it on crab or
shrimp) on their fries.

In the film Canadian Bacon (an American film about a future invasion
of Canada by the USA) by Roger Moore they depict canadians dipping
fries in mayonnaise. This is totally not true, we never put mayonnaise
on our fries. We do, however, put vinegar and salt on them and they
taste really good.

As for mayonnaise and ketchup, there is a Canadians chain of
restaurants called White Spot and they use a special sauce called
Triple-O on their hamburgers. The sauce appears to be made from
ketchup and mayonnaise. It tastes good, but they always put too much
on. Triple-O sauce is never used on fries tho.

Some people like gravy on their fries.

Oops, i meant Michael Moore, not Roger Moore, silly me. :)

Anyway, the point is the Americans seem to have this weird obsession
with putting mayonnaise on fries, as evident in the group - but NOT
Canadians. WE are normal.

Omit the relish and you end up with what is called Russian Dressing.
