Can anyone tell me why the Heinz Ketchup tasts so much better when it
comes from a glass bottle than when it comes out of a plastic bottle?

Any help would be much appreciated.

It's got to be some sort of chemical reaction between the acid of the
vinegar and the plastic. I have noticed that any acidic beverage taste
better when consumed from glass rather than plastic. And since ketchup sits
longer in the bottle than a soft drink, naturally it has more time to react.

But that is just me. Second opinions are greatly appreciated.

I don't quite know for sure, but I think it's a psychological kind of
thing, as e.g. beer also tastes better in glas then in plastic cups.

Dear Peet

Don`t you think there is a notable difference in the conistency between
glass-bottled ketchup and ketchup out of a plastic bottle?

There probably a psychological component involved. Most people notice an
doer that they find objectionable. Smell has a lot to do with taste or
how we perceive things to taste. From my experience as a
process/manufacutering engineer in the pharmaceutical industry, all
plastic products experience, chemical (Plastizer Leech) into the
adjoining environment. This is why most plastics change characteristics
i.e. embrittlement, stiffness, craze fractures etc. Where as glass is
inert to all but the most aggressive chemicals. Other products that were
shipped in plastic and had to be returned to glass - whiskey , beer. I t
seems alcohol does not have a good shelf life in most plastic
containers.
