to the statement.

The Home Minister, Mr. Indrajit Gupta has said, the
stability of the United Front Government will not be
affected even if the Congress-I President Mr.Narasimha
Rao is found guilty in the Lakhubhai Pathak cheating
case.

Mr. Gupta told newsmen in Madras yesterday, that the
outcome of the case will not have any impact on the
Congress party's support to the Deve Gowda ministry.

Asked about the allegations that the CBI is
pressurising Mr. Pathak to return to London, the Home
Minister said, he has no knowledge about any such
attempt.

A UNI report says, several Congress MPs have reacted
sharply to the Home Minister's statement.

The Home Minister also addressed the 10th meeting of
the Bank Employees Federation.

He said nationalised banks should generate their own
resources and play a meaningful role in the economy.

Mr. Gupta said, Trade Union Movement should review its
strategy to suit the new environment of globalised
economy.

I am certain the above is written to draw attention to
a very important matter: The animal-based food habit is
responsible for widespread suffering and death. Stroke
and heart-related diseases are the number-one killer in
this part of the world and are fast approaching that
status quickly in south Asia as well. This is
especially true for states such as Karnataka which have
opened the door to internationa junk-food chains such as
KFC.

The NEW YORK TIMES published an article last year
which stated that the annual health care expense of
treating animal-diet related diseases is comparable to
the health care cost resulting from smoking.

If Islam or any other source of instruction about what
we should eat advocates ill health then I urge its
followers to examine their blind faith to such ideas.
