The Los Angeles Times's "Countdown to Crawford," a blog devoted to chronicling
"the last days of the Bush administration," reports that John McCain is
attacking Bush:

McCain seemed to reserve his greatest venom for the
incumbent, George W. Bush, a fellow Republican who
defeated the Arizona senator in 2000 and perhaps kept
the 72-year-old McCain from his best shot at the White
House.

At a rally in Virginia Beach, McCain said:

"We cannot spend the next four years as we have spent
much of the last eight: waiting for our luck to change.
The hour is late; our troubles are getting worse; our
enemies watch. We have to act immediately. We have to
change direction now. We have to fight."

Let's accept that "the last eight" makes it a reference to Bush (whom McCain
did not explicitly mention, according to the speech text). Does the Times
really think that, as attacks on Bush go, this was venomous? Has the paper
completely missed the story of the Angry Left?

It is simply breathtaking to watch the glee and abandon with which
the liberal media and the Angry Left have been attempting to turn
our military victory in Iraq into a second Vietnam quagmire. Too bad
for them, it's failing.
