VHeadline.com commentarist Arthur Shaw writes: People, everywhere, argue
cogently that information gotten from torture victims is most unreliable of
perhaps all sources of "intelligence" because the victims are inclined to say
whatever his or her torturers want to hear.

The argument seems to me to be sound.

But for the sake of argument, let's assume its sound. OK?

So, why legalize torture if the take or the product is unreliable?

Well, some people love to torture others. It a bad and old habit. Other people,
a better type, I suppose, love to torture animals. That habit is bad and quite
old too. It seems that the cries from and the jerking of the victims, whether
humans or animals, excite intense pleasure in this sort of person.

Dick Cheney, in particular, seems to be this sort of person who becomes aroused
by observing and listening to the torture of humans more than the torture of
animals, so naturally he seeks adamantly and openly and shamelessly to legalize
it.

* Some GOPs approve of torture as a covert and illegal operation but, unlike
Cheney and Bush, these GOPs don't want it legalized. They find the idea
embarrassing. It impugns and taints their pretensions of behalf of human rights
around the world.

It's the common practice in US concentration camps in Iraq, Afghanistan, Cuba
and in some of the former Soviet republics to make a photographic record of
sessions during which humans are tortured by US officials and mercenaries. As
everybody knows, some of the pictures have found their way somehow into the
mainstream of the US capitalist and the world press.

There seems to be a sort of person, Cheney being one of them, who gets
vicariously aroused by watching movies of the torture of humans. This sort of
person says of course that he is only interested in gathering "intelligence"
from the movies to defend America.

True, these photographic records of tortures sessions, especially if the
torture involves extremely degrading sexual acts, are useful for "intelligence"
purposes if the victims survive and regain his or her liberty from the
oppressive and brutal US officials and mercenaries.

By threatening to disclose the movies ... reality shows of sadism ... the US
government or, at least, the GOPs who run the United States, can readily
blackmail their former victims of torture into serving US interests for years in
the future. For example, the US officials can demand that their former torture
victims become snitches or confidential informants to avoid further destruction
of what is left of their reputations and self-esteem if the movies were
distributed to the victims' colleagues and family and other acquaintances.
Indeed, its possible that some of these poor souls may commit suicide if US
officials disclose what they have done to their ex-prisoners in the pursuit of
"intelligence.".

But these "intelligence" uses of torture can not be the main motive behind the
official US campaign to legalize torture because the victims of torture are
often so damaged and deranged by the inhuman treatment from US officials and
mercenaries that the value of their subsequent cooperation in intelligence
operations is limited.

Although they are still alive, the victims of torture are often destroyed as
human beings and find it difficult to function as such.

Indeed, this damage sometimes affects and reaches even US officials who inflict
torture on others, not just the victims. We say, don't we, that they have a
"syndrome" ... whatever that is.

So, what is the main motive behind the White House call for the legalization of
torture by the highest officials of the US government, including the Cheney and
Bush.

Enjoyment!

Cheney and Bush and other GOPs love to watch movies made in their many
concentration camps around the world ... listen to the screams and study the
wild jerking ... as the victims are being "interrogated" by the US patriots and
friends of the United States, especially the Israelis who are exceedingly
talented interrogators.

These torture movies elevate reality TV to a whole new level. And nothing
... whether it is US law or international law or morality or the attainment of
imperialist goals ... will be allowed to stand in the way of these GOP leaders'
access to their select form of entertainment.

Oh boy, GOP leaders are really somethin' else! Would you believe that these
oppressive fiends really believe that they govern a democracy?

What kind of lunatics are they?
