Is there a way to connect to the IRC from behind a firewall that has that
port turned off? I've been trying to find a web-based IRC client that will
do this, but none of them work. Is there anything that can help me? Any help
is appreciated. Thanks.

---==From the mIRC help file ...

Firewall

mIRC can connect to an IRC Server through a SOCKS4 or SOCKS5 firewall.

The main purpose of this option is to allow someone to access IRC through a
SOCKS server at work, or more rarely through a network set up at home. The
majority of home users should keep this option turned off.

Most other irc clients have the same feature. Other alternatives include:
1) connecting to an irc "bouncer" on a remote machine
2) finding out exactly which ports are banned and why It is possible that
they may have blocked 6667 (irc's default port) but not 7000 (regularly
available). It is also possible that may well have blocked the ports to
restrict you from using IRC because they think you should be working
instead, quite why they want you to work instead of use IRC i am not sure.
3) telnet (or better still ssh) to a remote shell and run IRC from there.

Sure, talk to the firewall administrator and have them open up the port.
Usually it isn't a good idea because they have the port closed down for a
reason.

Telnet out to a shell account and use a unix based irc client such as
ircii or bitchX
