Someone calling themselves Deven T. Corzine babbled something about...

-> Yes, you should.

Well then, in some detail:

: From: s...@torque.net (SiL}})
: Control: newgroup alt.irc.brasirc
:
: Comments:
: a proposal for the creation of alt.irc.brasirc was discussed in
: alt.config, alt.irc, and several of our mailing lists during the period
: from March 30th through April 15th, 1997. The original proponents of

Sil suggests that his proposal was discussed for two weeks and supported
in alt.config. It was actually mentioned twice between 4/4 and 4/15 and
did not get any discussion, supportive or otherwise.

: For your newsgroups file:
: alt.irc.brasirc brasirc's assistance, help and discussion

: Charter:
: Internet Relay Chat proves to be an efficient and fast means of
: communication. BrasIRC is a network created to be an alternative to the
: three major networks then existent and it has proved to be one of the
[snip]

The charter does not specify what the discussion in the group should
consist of. It merely gives a cheap summary of what the Brasirc IRC
network is. It goes on to claim that Brasirc is a unique network and
thereby deserving of its own ng, which it is not.

Furthermore, if IRC is an efficient and fast means of communication, why
does it need to be supplemented by its own ng?

This charter is like saying Pepsi is better than Coke because it's brown
and has bubbles.

: This fact on the other hand makes it very difficult to establish a
: reliable means of discussion for its organization, help to all users,
: and continuous feedback only based on mailing lists. While other

This suggests that the ng will be primarily for administrative discussion,
which is more appropriate for, and better served by, a mailing list.
Continuous feedback is best served by a feedback email address.

I will refrain from making any more comments on Sil's claimes regarding
his network in comparison with others, big or small.

: Any type of help needed on IRC will be answered, major network changes
: are to be communicated and discussed, live chats and interviews can be
: announced, as well as specific channels matters and dicussions. No
: spamming or unrelated issues should be posted.

Perhaps, then, this group, if it is to exist, should be moderated.

: Justification:

The justification basically states that Brasirc is deserving of a
newsgroup simply because of its alleged size. There is no evidence of
readership submitted; and there is none.

This newsgroup is simply a vanity newsgroup for an upstart IRC network, in
an attempt to gain net.cred. Albeit there are second-rate ngs for other
IRC networks, such a.i.e, a.i.u, and a.i.d. Aside from that none of these
groups, for larger networks, have a demonstrably redeeming readership,
none of them really have a special or unique justification for their
existence. Creating newsgroups for individual irc networks, which are in
themselves supposedly superior modes of communication, shouldn't be such
an encouraged practice.

: anymore. Due to the immense number of posts in alt.irc, mostly related
: to Efnet, that newsgroup has shown to be a very confusing and
: overcrowded discussion area, where help questions frequently remain
: unanswered or are flamed constantly. The creation of alt.irc.brasirc

Sil claims that brasirc needs a ng because he cant find any
brasirc-related discussion anywhere else in that alt.irc.* hierarchy.
Supposedly, this is because alt.irc is too EFnocentric. Naturally, a
vanity ng for his network will create all kinds of discussion.
He also expresses a thinly veiled desire to escape the taunts of his
nemeses, many of the regulars of alt.irc.

To reiterate, there is no evidence of readership given, there was no
discussion or support given in alt.config (or anywhere else for that
matter), and there is no justification given for this special ng.
