IRC Server Query

Hello,
I have an irc server running on an Hp 9000 that uses HP-UX 8.07
I am running ircd version irc2.7.2g.
Most things seem to work except /join #channel,
When one does /join #WHIZZARD you get a message back saying
*** CHANNEL #WHIZZARD Unknown Command.
However if one use /quote join #whizzard you are able to join the channel
a do virtually everything except change the topic. The only problem is that
everything that i see is in the form of /msg #Whizzard ie the channel name
The status bar that keeps track of the modes is also screwed up a channel
can have no mode and my line say +samt\
**I have tried to talk with Avalon, however he has not or WILL not reply.**
(I'd actually like to add here, that I've tried the same - for a person
who had such a large part in the creation of the IRC software, Darren,
your EMAIL responses are very unfair to the people who support your
software - not even a reply to tell people to try elsewhere - simply no
response at all - it's utterly disgusting - Jason.)

Sounds extremely like a client problem to me.. the client you are using
is sending "CHANNEL #channel" not "JOIN #channel" .. as the CHANNEL command
has been replaced/removed, etc.. if you have fiddled with any of the source
files for ircd, then you might have mucked something up, and the client
(sounds like ircII) defaults to ircd version 2.5 (which had CHANNEL) ..
Try recompiling from scratch..

Well, Avalon is on holidays at the moment, so you can't really expect him
to reply can you. I think its rather rude to make a comment like the
above, when you don't know why.. and don't take his ctcp finger idle
time as a REAL indication of his idle time..
