Not quite right I believe, Changes made within mIRC's editor are saved
when you hit OK (or choose save from the menu), and I believe they are
even saved when you change tab (e.g. from Popups to remote). The changes
you have made is available as soon as you change tab anyway.
If it seems that changes made are lost after a while, it is most likely
some other parts of the script overwriting/chaning it (some dynamic stuff
etc).
To add your own stuff if you are using a "full" script, read the scripts
readme docs to see where you can safely place it, and what kind of naming
syntax to use for vars/alias. Most safe is to allways use your own mrc-
files and name your stuff starting with something like mycoolstuff.blah
Also, if you accidentally unloaded an .ini or .mrc, you can use file: load:
and select
the one you want from there.. or you can /load -rs filename.ini/.mrc
Hope something here helps..

Allen,
In my experience, the only case in which this would happen is if you use
switchs in the command line to start mIRC. For example, I experienced this
when using "mirc32.exe -iFILENAME.INI" to start mIRC. If you do this, you'd
probably be better off installing another copy of mIRC and using that one
instead of using this feature to create multiple "accounts" with mIRC.
If this is not the case, then something else is wrong with your client.
Sorry, I've never exprienced that otherwise; however, by default, mIRC will
save files immediately after editing. Even switching tabs, as Jon already
pointed out, will cause the files to be immediately saved and put into
effect. No restarting is necessary at all.

Actually, that's not entirely true. From the mirc help on /load:
/load -a aliases.ini loads an aliases file
/load -pc status.ini loads a channel popup
/load -pn status.ini loads a nickname list popup
/load -ru users.ini loads a users file
/load -rv vars.ini loads a variables file
/load -rs script.ini loads a scripts file
While -rs is probably the most common switch, it isn't the only one.

Ummm, that command works if the popup file is a script with a remote menu
def, but if it's the actual popups.ini that comes default with mIRC and it
does get unloaded somehow, then there are subsections (i.e., [cpopup] for
channel popups) that you must load individually from a command line with
/load -pc popups.ini
to load the channel section, or
/load -pn popups.ini
to load the nicklist section, etc.
Only one script/section can be loaded at a time into the various areas of
popups, channel, nicklist, status, etc., and there is no /unload command I
know of for the popup sections, since a /load command unloads the existing
.ini and loads the new one specified.
You can also use the Save command under File in the popup editor to rename
and save each popup section to it's own individual file.ini.
If you wanted multiple popup files for a particular section, you would just
Save the section under a new name and then modify it as needed, using then
the /load command for that particular section to load the various files
you're made.
Personally, I feel popup .ini files are more trouble than they are worth, so
I only make scripts with remote menu defs for any popups needed. Much
cleaner and easier.

Of course I dont know everything.

Hehehe... I wasn't saying you were incorrect, just leaving out a little
info. To be honest, I didn't know it my self for quite a while.

I agree. Remote menu popups can be put in multiple popup sections,
including a window, and enable/disable can show/hide them too (besides
dynamic entries). The only thing the alias/popup sections seem to have
going for them is the Alias/Popup menu which lists the aliases or views the
entire popup. Now this makes me wish the remotes section had something to
browse with.. my Ctrl-F will wear out.
