Rather than closing its connection with the server properly, your client (or
computer) simply stopped listening, from the server's point of view. There
are many reasons why this happens... It's usually a temporary problem, and
can be resolved by simply reconnecting.

Thanks for the explanation - I figured that something between me and Dalnet
barfed, as my Internet connection is still working, and reconnection always
works. - no biggee, just curious...

If _you_ are seeing this for the reason that _your_own_ connection
broke, then the server probably died. Other possibilities include bugs
in your network stack or a proxy between you and the server.

If you are seeing this as the reason that someone else disconnected
from the server, then they probably lost the connection to their ISP or
their computer or client crashed or was shut down abnormally.

I'm seeing it happening to me, but not all that often. When it does, my
Internet connection is still going strong, I just get disconnected from
Dalnet. And I can always immediately reconnect. It happened this morning
while transferring some files. The file transfer didn't so much as hiccup,
which is why I believe my Internet connection was just fine. It was a slow
file transfer so I wasn't using up all of my bandwidth, either.

No no no, you are thinking of Efnet - they truely hate me and won't let me
connect....Dalnet merely tolerates me....
