Iomega 750 Bad Disks

Why do so many Zip Disks go bad on my Iomega 750 Zip Drive, and can anything
be done to save these disks?
Out of 11 750mb disks, 8 went bad. Out of 3 250mb disks, all are bad.
However, the 1 100mb disk I have still works.
Of the bad one, the Zip Drive doesn't seem to even recognize then, always
asking me to insert a disk even though it is already in the drive.
