Hi There,

I currently have a Dell C610 laptop which has the mini pci slot internally,
in this I have the dell true mobile 1150 series mini pci wireless card, is
this supported in Netstumbler as I seem to have great difficulty in getting
it to detect anything, even my own AP. My wireless connection works
perfectly for me for normal use, if this card is not supported does some one
know of a card that works properly with both netstumbler and ministumbler as
I also have a HP Ipaq 5450 and a pcmcia sleeve, the 5450 's built in
wireless card is currently unsupported by ministumbler but I thought an
external card would be better as I can attach an external antenna to it much
more easily and also this won't invalidate the warranty on the 5450.

Thanks in advance for any help

Dave.

The only card that guarantees 100% functionality without any problems is the
Lucent/Agere/Proxim "Orinoco" card. The company has changed their name
several times!! THE cheapest place in the uk for these is
http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk . Type Orinoco into the search box top right
on their page and there it is! Other cards do work, such as the Compaq
WL110, because there are lots of rebranded Orinoco cards out there, but they
can have problems. Initially I bought a Compaq card but it wanted to go to
sleep after 5 minutes or so of Stumbling and I couldn't stop it despite much
effort trying different drivers and firmware. I'm sure I'm right in thinking
that Dell themselves sell one of these rebranded Orinoco cards, but best to
stick with the original. I use it with both a laptop and an Ipaq without
problems. The only other thing you might want would be an external antenna
to plug into it to gain additional range, but that's another story :-)

The Dell Truemobile IS an Orinoco card......
And, it IS supported by Netstumbler.
I had no difficulty making it work.

Ministumbler also needs an Orinoco....

My Wl110 works fine in my iPAQ 3850 PCMCIA sleeve including working with
MiniStumbler. I use it all the time for my ActiveSync connection.
As far as I remember it also works with NetStumbler in my portable, but it
is a while since I tried it. Certainly works O.K. for normal WiFi in my
portable.
