I am looking to setup a wireless network between two houses 600m apart (line
of sight and no obstructions)

The reason i want this 2.4 GHz LanPoynt dish (21 dBi) is because i am going
to be linking up with another wireless network in 2 months time
which is about 3 miles away.

What i need to no is if this will cause any damage to wireless equipment
seeing that the pc's are only 600m apart ( read a on a webpage once that to
much power from a high gain antenae would cause damage to equipment)

If it turns out it is overkill how about a 15dBi Yagi

PS. I am totally new to wireless networking this i my first attempt

Also what cabling works well at microwave levels (probably be about 10
metres long) and what type of connectors.

For tht distance of cable you will need LMR400, or the clone HDF400

I cannot see (unless a high power booster was used) that two standard power
cards causing damage to equiptment if a high gain antenna was used over a
short distance.

IF you feared having too much power, you could always use an inline
antenuator to reduce the transmitted power to the antenna, or just connect a
few in-line connectors from the card, 1db reduction (approx) with each
connection, or use a long length pigtail with a HIGH loss coax cable untill
you require the full power.

Remember that the power enimating from the antenna should be within the FFC
standards.

Regards
Alan

In article <bpsppn$ipn$1...@ctb-nnrp2.saix.net>, mave...@istream.co.za
says...

It is overkill, but it will certainly work, and will not damage
equipment. You will certainly want that antenna for the 3 mile haul.

Give serious consideration to mounting your radio gear closer to your
antenna (outside in a weatherproof enclosure). While suitable cables
exist for your proposed 10m run, they are expensive and hard to work
with.

The free-space signal loss due to the difference between 600 meters and 3
miles is about 9 dB.
