I am trying to install a compaq wireless pc card (WL110) on a windows 95
laptop. It looks like it installs correctly. The software shows a solid
link to the router. It has the driver listed, however when I go into the
network properties, there is no tcp/ip protocol listed for the wl110. I
have tried reinstalling everything, the pc card, the software, microsoft
networking, tcp/ip, and even IPX. IPX installed protocols for every adapter
listed there except the WL110, just like TCP/IP does. I tried everything I
could think of. I don't see the network, can't get on the internet, and if
I go to winipcfg, the card isn't listed there so I can't even get an IP
Address. Anyone have any ideas? I e-mailed compaq, but thought I would
throw this out there and see if anyone here had any similar problems that
they overcame.
Thanks,
Vinny

I too use a WL110, they work well. I've used it in Win98 and WinXP without
problems on the laptop.

The reason nothings working is due to you not having TCP/IP installed for the
WL110.

I'm not sure why it's not their but a friend had exactly the same problem with a
wired lan card, couldn't install TCP/IP for it and wasn't appearing in winipcfg
etc, he's solution was to uninstall every thing for the card (drivers an all),
then reboot, then reinstall the cards driver, then install TCP/IP in
controlpanel/network ... thing is it sounds like you've done this already ???

I presume you have a working PCMCIA driver installed ?

tell him to try adding a Dial-up adapter in the network properties, that
will usually force TCP to load on early 95 rev's

if its win95 rev 4.0.950 or 950A, forget it, load 950B "OSR2" or 950C
"OSR2.1" and also get the DUN1.3 and/or winsock2 updates loaded, or just
load win98

also if the laptop mfg loaded Cardwizard for Dos/win3.x realmode, the
card will not load
look in system.ini under [386enh] section for any line that includes
TRANXIT and rem " ; " it out also rename autoexec.bat & config.sys to .old
or whatever
