Just install a D-link DI-614+ with a DWL-520+ wireless PCI adapter in my two
story home. The wireless router is in the bedroom up in the 2nd floor while
the wireless computer is down stairs in the TV room. The distance is about
60 feet total. I know that I am going threw a wooden floor and 2 walls, but
my signal is only 16% max or none at all.

Want some cheese with that whine?

60' is quite likely to be marginal with floors and walls in the way,
depending on the nature of the construction etc. But, before you
give up, have you experimented with moving the antenna, like from
vertical to horizontal, and aiming the two device's antennas at
each other?

The results you are getting are probably typical with inexpensive
hardware. Wirless is one of those things were you get what you pay
for. If you were using Cisco hardware you would not have any trouble
at all. Course the downside of the Cisco hardware is the cost. The
cost of an adapter is higher than the cost of many access points from
other vendors.

Best thing is to try to relocate the access point to somewhere more
favorable, The use of an external antenna if it is supported may help
as well.

I'm using a Di-614+ here with a 650+ in a notebook. ( I haven't put the
520+ into a pc yet but have one) and on my second floor I get a quite good
signal. Is your house lead lined maybe ? It should work fine. At the
worst I've seen a 50% signal on the second floor the farthest away from the
access point. But usually it's in the 70-80% range. (if it's accurate)

You *CAN* make that link a whole bunch better with a couple of reflectors.
