My site has finally been listed on Google (23 days today).

My thanks to all past and present posters in this forum and especially to
those who host sites dedicated to educating webmasters about the trials
and tribulations of site submission and optimisation - and those who
directly answered my questions. Now to focus on the task of optimising the
site :)

Hey, don't go blaming us!

Ah well, if that's all you've got to do...

What search terms are you targeting?

BTW - nice stuff on the site, downloaded the pdf book. <mutter>One more

Not entirely sure yet. I recall looking for leading art-related
search-terms and it seems "fine art" and "art gallery" are the leaders -
and I've already been sure to mention "fine art gallery" a few times in
the hope of covering both terms in one phrase. Where possible, without
screwing up readability, I've included these terms in internal links. More
likely terms for the average surfer might be landscape and oil painting. I
expect I'll give this more in-depth consideration as I continue to develop
the site and seek-out good inbound links.

I guess the dilemma is to either settle on one specific term and hammer it
- getting a high rank for that term but missing out on other good terms -
or to mix up the terms in inbound links, possibly giving only an average
ranking but greater likelihood of beeing seen by more people. Decision,
decisions...

Well, thanks again :) I hope to do another e-book "soon" (when I get
around to it), focusing on a different part of my home state.

Suggestions:

- Use a Home button
- Use your own domain name

I have at least two links on every page that point to the index (I have an
image based site menu plus a text-based site menu that remains consistent
throughout. I don't use the term "home" but the links are there. I also
added a basic "siteplan" which added an extra set of links on that page,
plus links to level-three documents not accessible directly from the
index.

> - Use your own domain name

Australians can't register a .com.au unless they are a registered business
(and even then, the naming options are restricted to names directly
relating to the business and/or it's brand products). It might be possible
to register an overseas domain but I don't know how or what it costs. My
website is, at this stage, hobby-level anyway so I'm not overly-driven by
results. That could change though so I want to keep my eye on the ball as
far as optimising trends go.

If I register a business to reserve a domain, I end-up having to keep
records, file tax returns and possibly pay tax on my sales which I don't
do as a hobbyist.
