When we started registering domains through their (then) competitive service
I do not recall the 19pds that now appears for domain transfer.
Regrettably I can't turn up a copy of the original T&Cs - pre September
(let that be a lesson for all future business).
Did some more careful person stash away a copy that would substantiate or
otherwise my memory....

Look at the crap they have about CORE on their site. CORE isn't the
.COM equiv of Nominet - its just another ICANN member. The biggest joke
of all is that UK2NET doesn't even register their .com's through CORE,
they go through www.joker.com, a service available to anyone.
I spoke to someone from Nominet yesterday who hinted they were thinking
of suspending UK2NET's tag due to the complaints they were getting.
I manage tech support for a major US ISP and we've actually added
'Problem with UK2NET' as a problem category on the report ticket
system.....
Guys, pay your £20 and move your domains. I have inside knowledge and
know a few people and I can guarantee you they won't be in business in
six months.

1) Nominet would never ever suggest anything like that on the telephone to
anyone other than UK2. It would be unprofessional to do so, and Nominet are
a very professional organisation
2) 'Yesterday' was Friday. That is Good Friday. Nominet were closed.

This is probably wrong, unless the Advertising Standards people get their
asses into gear. UK2 will keep registering more domains so long as they
keep saying "free" on their adverts. Also, all those goons checking their
domains on the UK2 site soon find them unavailable, and registered by UK2.

Nominet would never suggest that over the phone to anybody. Probably not
even UK2, never mind yourself. Could you please tell us which member of
staff it was, because I want to make a formal complaint as another tag
holder to Nominet, and perhaps make some noises with the ISPA and
suchlike as well. We are all competitors and we don't need the monopoly
of the UK naming authority taking sides, whether they're right or not.

That could be construed as ramping, and if they were a publically-listed
company, you would now be finding yourself in the position of being
prosecuted. In fact, UK2 are now legally entitled to ask you to disclose
your 'inside information' and if you can't provide it, or retract your
statement, they have grounds to sue you. And your ISP. In fact, you
might want to consider getting a cancel on that message, or disclose
your inside information.
Not bitching at you, just pointing out to you the danger of making
statements that could have dire consequences for a company like UK2,
Nominet and lots of other companies besides.
Cheers,

Out of interest, does anyone know what would happen to domains hosted at
UK2 (or anywhere for that matter) if the hosting company went up in smoke?
ie how would do get hold of your domain and move it (posthumously)?
I'm thinking in terms of those domains where the nominet certificate is
registered in the users name instead of the hosting company's name.

Prove to nominet that it belongs to you, and they'll move it where you want.
Ian
I spoke to them in person, not on the phone. My MD knows someone at
Nominet very well and they were up on Friday.
UK2Net will go out of business if someone offers a lower price, as they
have a pledge to refund all your money if someone offers a cheaper
package.

Is that so?
1) What are UK2's prices? I could certainly forsee myself undercutting them
for a short time.
2) You say cheaper package? Our .com package of £27.95 including VAT
including free web and mail forwarding without banners, and no release fee,
is better than their £32, plus £22 release fee.
3) How would you be able to contact UK2 to claim your full refund?
Ian
Ian
UK2s prices at on their website at http://www.uk2.net
For UK domains they currently charge £1.99 per year + Nominet fee
Their money back pledge is on http://amail.co.uk/youget.htm :
Your money back, if you can find anyone else offering .co.uk / .com and
EmailDiversion, WebDiversion, BusinessCard, POP3 mailboxes, Dialup,
Certificate and Auction for £1.99 per year. We will refund your entire
£3.98. (Within 48 hours)
You would have to provide all the things they offer. Just because you
think your package is better value doesnt really count as far as the
law is concerned. But if you offer exactly the same as them they would
be liable to do a refund.
Although they ARE crap, this isn't because of their automated online
system which is well thought out and takes some time and skill to do
properly. But for a team of good coders its still only a weekend job.
If someone does it it would finish them. It you can't contact them to
get a refund trading standards WOULD shut them down, so long as you
shout at the right people.
Any Nominet / ICANN members out there fancy causing a big upset ???

hmmn, we already do the email diversion and web diversion for free, I don't
see any harm in doing free POP-3 mailboxes. Dialup is free from anywhere,
Certificates come from nominet... but we can knock something up, what's this
lark with Business card and Auction?
We could put up a picture of Bo on the hold page! All for £3.97 for two
years. hehehe.
