Tens of thousands of Palestinians have
taken part in the funeral of Sheikh
Ahmed Yassin, the assassinated founder
of the militant group Hamas.
The paraplegic cleric, who Israel says
masterminded suicide bombings, was
targeted by helicopter gunships in Gaza
after leaving a mosque early on Monday.
A State Department spokesman said the
US was "deeply troubled" by the attack.
Later Israeli armoured vehicles moved
into the Gaza Strip, amid reports of
rocket attacks on Israeli targets.
ISRAEL 'TO CONTINUE LIQUIDATIONS'
Israeli Defence Minister Shaoul Mofaz
has said his country's policy of
"liquidating terrorists" will continue.
Speaking after Israeli forces killed
Hamas leader Sheikh Yassin in Gaza,
Mr Mofaz said Hamas was a "strategic
enemy" of Israel and must be destroyed
There has been widespread international
condemnation of the assassination of
Sheikh Yassin.
