I'm spotting - its brown. I called the doctor an hour ago and was told
that they would get back to me within two hours. I'll be 12 weeks on
Friday. There are lots of reasons why I would be spotting and
everything could still be ok right? I promised myself that i would
enjoy every minute of this pregnancy but now I am just scared. I rented
the Babybeat last week and haven't been able to find a heart beat even
though the doctor did hear one and I've had two ultrasounds. I didn't
let myself worry about not finding it because I figured it is probably
just that I don't really know what I am looking for. I am sooo in love
with this baby. My husband has been telling me every morning that he
loves me and the baby.

I dont know if this may help Tania but i will be 13 weeks on sunday and i
still have to have a full bladder to pick up the H/B with my babybeat.
Maybe you could try this and remember it will beat twice as fast as yours so
you will know when you find it.

Dear Tania

Spotting at 12 weeks in pregnancy is certainly a cause for concern, you are
right to have called the doctor. This must be a terrifying time for you,
made worse no doubt by what is happening in the States and the general air
of grief and shock over all of us at the moment.

It doesn't necessarily mean that you have lost the baby though, it could
just be some breakthrough bleeding which has no explanation, or there could
be some old blood that has collected earlier in the pregnancy and is coming
away now, as the uterus grows and the placenta too. The fact that it is
brown means that it is old blood not fresh blood, and providing it stays
like that, there is no reason to assume that you are actually bleeding now.

Of course it is desperately frustrating to not know; at 12 weeks you cannot
reliably pick up the h/b on a sonic aid, and really you need a scan asap to
find out what is going on.

I send you love and hugs and hope that everything is okay for you and the
baby.

God bless you all.

Janet

Try positioning your baby beat close to your pubic bone. I was probably
about 14 weeks when I ordered mine and was surprised that it was so low. I
am glad you called your doctor but also remember that just because you are
spotting doesnt necessarily mean that you have lost your baby. I think
brown spotting is old blood anyway and there can be quite a few reasons for
spotting at this point.

Take care of yourself, get some rest and try not to stress yourself.

I have been scared all the way through this pregnancy so far and although I
have to admit that I am starting to get excited, I am still concerned about
a few things even at 27 weeks.

Let us know how your doctor visit goes.

Kathleen

I've had brown bleeding at 12 wks with both my pregnancies. With my
singleton it always took me forever to find the hb with the babybeat and
could only do it on a full bladder from 12-16wks. Also you need to look for
it right at the pubic hair line.

I'm sure your dr. will let you come in for some reassurance. Let us know
what happens.

The fact that it's brown is good news, that means old blood.
It could simply be an old blood clot that came through. But it
is always a good idea to get check. Look really low (below pubic
hairline) with the baby beat, but don't panic too much, 12 weeks is
still early,
and if you have a little "padding" up front, like me ;-),
it simply may be blocked. Hang in there, let us know what
happens. I'll be praying for you and the baby.

Love,
Carolyne in CA
