What the heck is a "rollout"?

My furnace stopped producing heat yesterday. The blower comes on, but no
ignition. The LED flashes 5 times -- indicating that "rollout open". What
could be the cause/solution?

Can't find any info on York P2MP or rollout on the internet or how-to's on
furnaces.

Just a cold homeowner, not a HVAC guy.

Thanks,
Bryn

rollout is when the flames roll out backwards into the control area. or
just not going into the heat exchangers. this could be caused by a faulty
induser motor ( vent motor) but the pressure switch would catch this. it is
possable that it did catch it and that is why you have the LED signal. but
it looks as if your rollout switch is open which is located just above the
burners. you can manualy reset it just by pushing the button. you should
moniter it after doing so . If it hapens again you should call an
experienced service tech to determine the cause

Bryn,
Look on top of the burner
there is a roll out switch there maybe 2
and on both ends of the burner. You need to push in the button on the end
between the wires check on each switch. One of these switches will feel
different when you push the button you'll know it when you find it. If you have
a downfow furnace there will be one in the blower compartment too. next to the
blower.
these are all in series with the gas valve cuircut ( 24 volts) email me if you
have a question on it...
If it happens again call a tech cause its just the start of a bigger prob.

Rollout is the flame rolling out of the heat exchanger. The rollout
switch opens the circuit to the gas valve. Usually this switch is a
manual reset type and has a button on top of it. To reset it you push
it down.

The most likely causes of this are, failed induced draft motor, A
blockage in the heat exchanger, or a big crack in the heat exchanger
allowing the fan to push the flame out of the HX and triping the roll
out switch.
You can try to reset the switch but before you do make certian you
know where the furnace shutoff switch is and once reset it, if you
notice any flames rolling out of the front of the furnace shut it off
and call a serviceman.

Thanks for all the info! Was a tripped switch - plan to keep on eye on it
though. Think maybe a power flucation or strong downdraft may have been the
reason for the tripping. Draft up flue is excellent. Now, I know where all
the reset switches are located.

Bryn - now a warm homeowner.

Okay it has been two days , have you had much an opportunity to use the
furnace? if not try it anyway run it for a while to be sure it will work
when it gets cold, and also it will be easier to get someone to look at it when
it is mild outside than when cold.
as for the rollout opening, they rarely just "trip" or open. it is a safety
device and is most likely doing exactly what it is designed to do.
there can be a problem with a clogged or diryt heat exchanger to where you
will get the suction to pull in the pressure switch, allowing the furnace to
work, or if it is a high efficiency furnace there may be a partial obstruction
it the PVC flue.check to make sure the flue is straight and there is no sagging
in it.I would suggest having a qualified technition look at and determine the
problem, as this may actually save you money in the long run.
