We are shopping around for a central air conditioning unit. Our house
is approx. 1500sq ft and we replaced our forced air gas furnace last
year with a Carrier. We have received a price quote for a Payne of
$1600 Cdn and a Bryant for $1800. We live north of Toronto in Canada
and will probably use the unit for approx. 3 months of the year. Is it
worth it to save the $200 and go with the Payne, even though the Payne
is by some considered an inferior product?

The $200.00 difference could be in just the contractor's margin, but make
sure as best u can that they both are furnishing & installing the same
things & I am not sure in Canada but the USA should have a permit taken.
Hope this helps.

Comparing the Payne to the 560 series Bryant, I sure don't see any
premium for the Bryant. Bryant does have a premium line that is better
built but usually not often quoted.

Price difference is dealer. Read the fine print carefully.

If the SEER is the same then they're both comparable.

I personaly don't like Payne on a service point of view.Primarily with the
way their parts
and weird design are. I have a Bryant system here in Dallas about four
years old. I've never had to do anything with it. Its just fine.My house is
over 3500 square feet and I'm using a split system . In laymens terms I
have two units one for upstairs, and one for down.Hope this helps.Randall

What in blazes are you talking about? 4 years ago when your beloved
Bryant
was made, Payne was the EXACT same product. Now, Payne outdoor units
have
been cheapend to compete with Goodman & Nordyne. The furnaces are
similar.
Both sold by Bryant suppliers.
