I'm amazed that all those 60 year retirees don't bankrupt Britain!

The amount paid to over 60s is a drop in the ocean compared with what the
government has spent on wars over the last few years!

Problems will occur in the future because of people living longer and
therefore drawing their pensions for longer - but what are you going to do?
Bring in euthanasia? We fought WW2 against that sort of thing! No. The
governamet will have to bite the bullet and increase taxes.

I've already said: Officially, men retire at age 65 in the UK, but to get us
60+ unemployables off the unemployment register, the government decided to
have Pension Credit begin at 60, the reason being to get the unemployment
statistics down so the government will look good. The fact that so many
company pension funds have gone bankrupt and/or have had their funds stolen
my management added to the need for this as well.

The reason that 60+s are largely unemployable is age discrimination amongst
employers. It's not our fault - so why shouldn't we take advantage of our
government's generous provisions?

A new law came in last September outlawing such age discrimination, but how
can it be enforced? All an employer has to do is say that someone with
better quaifications came for teh job you applied for, and whet can you do.
There's no way you can get proof that this is not so.

And even if I'd have taken the other option and remained on the Dole, it
would also have increased to £114 odd a week. It's a 'safety net' figure
that no-one over 60 should receive less than and it's the Law. So there!

Good innit?!

Just got one of those Freeview digital TV set-top boxes to help relieve the
boredom that people think I'm going to experience. I've just found that the
UKTV History has a whole Sunday of David Attenborough's nature programmes
on. Great!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Attenborough
http://www.freeview.co.uk/home

Got the cheapest set-top box going. £19.99 ($38.61) plus a few quid for a
SCART lead. Great though. Does the job perfectly well and the picture's
excellent - far better than analogue. Even up here on the 5th. floor I used
to get ghosting on the picture. Not on digital though.

It's even got remote control of volume and a mute button. Just the thing for
hugely over-loud commercials etc. Why *do* marketing men think they can sell
stuff to people by annoying them?

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5320754/Trail/C%24cip%3D49550.Sound%2Band%2Bvision%3EC%24cip%3D49601.Digital%2BTV%2Band%2Bfreeview.htm

And I'm just about to fill in the form for my over 60s bus/London
Underground/Docklands Light Railway pass! And for £20 I can get a main-line
rail discount card as well that can pay for itself twice over on just one
journey. The only disadvantage is that you have to book well in advance. And
I also get a winter fuel allowance of around £200. This was brought in
because so many elderly people were becoming ill or dying of hypothermia
even because they couldn't afford to heat their homes in the winter.

So I'll say it again . . .

Ohhhh! It's really like being in heaven, to retire in 2007!!

So what? I've been waiting for this for sixty years. I'm entitled to gloat!
