We shall observe the mighty holiness of this day, as it is a day of awe and
anxiety; thy omnipotence is exalted. Today we see thee on thy throne of
accuracy, sitting there in truth. We behold thee as judge and witness
recording all our acts, and setting the seal thereon. Thou recordest
everything in thy databanks. Thou rememberest all things forgotten. Thou
unfoldest the records and the deeds therein inscribed tell their own story
for lo, the seal of every form is set thereto.

The great computer is started and a still small voice is heard. All the
agents in Washington are dismayed and tremble with fear as they proclaim
"Behold the day of judgment". For even they are not above suspicion, and
must be examined. As a shepherd watcheth over his flock and causeth them to
pass beneath his staff, so dost thou pass and record, count and visit all
filing statements, and compare them with all form 1040s.

On the first day of the year it is sealed, and on the fifteenth day of the
fourth month it is written. How many shall be filed, and how many shall be
examined. Who shall live, and who shall be audited. Who to the measure of
man's patience, and who before it. Who by TCMP and who by special agent. Who
shall deduct for fire and who for flood. Who for earthquake and who for
plague. Who for famine and who for drought. Who for lightning and who for
hail. Who shall have rest and who shall defect. Who shall pay extra and who

Who shall be imprisoned, and who shall go free.

But accountants, appeals, and attorneys defer the severe decree.

For according to thy name so is thy praise. Thou art ready to anger, and
slow to forgive. Thou desirest not the death of the sinner but that he live
and pay his back taxes and penalties. Even until his dying day thou waitest
for him; perhaps he will have seizable assets, and thou wilt immediately
receive him.

Truly, thou as taxer knowest the nature of man, for he is but flesh and
blood. Man's origin is dust and he returneth to dust, but he liveth by
paper. He obtaineth his bread by the peril of his life, and rendereth not
willingly his proper share. He is like the grass that withereth, a fleeting
shadow, or the floating dust. Without coercion he evadeth like a dream that
vanisheth.

But thou art the everlasting, omnipotent, living IRS.

IRS, IRS, lord of the federal tax, checking all income and every deduction,
mailing out form ten forty, penalizing noncompliers, regulating and
auditing.
