Provincial court judge makes ruling to let homeless people camp in public
parks because there is no more shelter housing and not enough housing for
the homeless because of provincial /federal cutback in housing programs
..The door has opened a floodgate of problems for the province and the
federal government on the ruling and the city of victoria said it would like
to put the appel monies used into housing instead of court costs they figure
it could cost about 1/2 million dollars or more to defend the case and the
civic election is on in november and the people running for the mayors job
dont want to waste money when they could put the money towards helping the
homeless in the city get real life-long housing instead of tents in the
parks and in ally ways.
the bc provincial government is giving people monies to buy tents to sleep
outside with camping gear and providing housing this way because there isnt
enough shelter beds and housing for low income people because of the cuts.
