Occasionally some warped kid comes here asking if there are any real "Snuff"
films out there. Well, here you go, you nutbag:

From http://asylumeclectica.com/morbid/

Two German men were jailed for life in April, 1999 for murdering a
prostitute to make a "snuff" movie. The woman was tied up, raped and
tortured before being strangled and her ordeal captured on video. It was
cheaper than employing actors and special effects, a court in Hagen,
Germany, was told. Ernst Dieter Korzen, 37, and Stefan Michael Mahn, 30,
picked up the 21-year-old Turkish prostitute in Cologne and took her to
their isolated farm. Her body was later found on a rubbish tip, her hands
and feet bound with metal and a rope round her neck. The court heard the
crime was uncovered because the woman died too quickly and a second woman
was abducted to complete the video, but managed to escape and alert police.
It is the first time anyone has been convicted of a murder captured on film.
Prosecutor Wolfgang Rahmer said: "From my experience, this represents a new
depth in perversion. You see the victim begging for her life, pain being
inflicted and massive sexual torture." Before this case, lack of evidence
had led to skepticism over the existence of snuff movies. But Mr Rahmer said
he had no doubt that an industry existed. "We know that there is no sexual
perversion that cannot be marketed, and you would be amazed at the sums
offered for such perverse videos." Frankfurt prosecutor Job Tilmann said the
film would have fetched up to £10,000 in America. "People soon get bored and
then the perversion escalates. There is no limit to the cruel fantasies that
can be shown." Belgian private eye Andre Rogge, who specializes in missing
children, said the German case was not an isolated one."I know from my
experience that this is a thriving market. On some videos you can see
children under four being tortured. But police have been unable to identify
any of the victims."

It was just a matter of time, I guess.

This sounds kind of like a tabloid report, of which there have been many in
a similar vein over the years using the term "snuff" as a headline gimmick.

The comments by "high profile" legal people are especially silly and
familiar in tabloid jounalism. Anyone remember the high court judge blaming
James Bulger's murder absolutely on the film Child's Play? It's much like
the "Satanic Abuse" that supposedly sacrifices hundreds of children every
year, much to the extreme outrage of certain religious groups.

Yeah, I considered it a UL when I posted it. It would be impossible to
verify even if it happened in America. Still, there are unquestionably
snuff films out there, typically shot in war zones where prisoners are
killed and mutilated by their captors, like one I saw on Traces Of Death 3
where a live, naked South American Indian had his dick cut off and stuffed
in his mouth by some soldiers without any editing whatsoever. No way that
was fake, and since the purpose of the shot was evidently entertainment, it
would qualify as a snuff film. I defy anyone to watch it and tell me
otherwise.

I wonder if the film they did will be available on tape soon. There was a
movie that came out in the 70's, I think. It was called Snuff and it was fake.
They tried to pass it off as real with the usual "Banned" warning on the cover.

I haven't seen TOD3 (or any of them, for that matter) but aren't you mixing
up snuff (killing purely for entertainment) and mondo (killing/death
captured on film)? If you haven't read Killing For Culture (Kerekes and
Slater), I'd highly recommend it - I have no interest in watching most of
the films they document, but their analysis of the phenomenon is
fascinating. They trace snuff legends from the Manson family onwards,
through to things like Flowers of Flesh and Blood, and conclude that there
is no proof that there are real snuff movies out there.

Perhaps that is the distinct terminology. I hadn't considered it.

and to make matters worse the real ending of the film has been edited out to
make way for the 'snuff' footage.
so if you actually cared about the storyline then that's just too bad.

Snip.

This actually proves nothing. This particular case resembles the Charles Ng
situation in California, and is NO CLOSER to what a snuff film actually is.
It is clear that an attempt was made to create a film for distribution
featuring the torture and murder of a human being. That much is accepted as
having happened in the past. The real debate is if there is indeed a
COMMERCIAL market for such things, and if there has ever been a film like
this seized in a police raid.

The comments by the prosecutors in this case are complete fear-mongering
nonsense. Would any one of these gentlemen be willing to produce even ONE of
these films that they are so certain exist? They couldn't because they
don't.

Please don't misunderstand - I am one hundred percent certain that there are
such a thing as individuals filming illegal activities for later viewing,
and maybe even for trading with their sicko pals. The problem is when
blue-nosed crusaders of various stripes completely blow this whole idea out
of proportion and make up all kinds of figures in an effort to discredit and
criminalize horror films and pornography.

For a good resource on this topic see KILLING FOR CULTURE. Long out of
print, but a search at http://www.alibris.com should turn up a copy or two.
See also the Snopes urban legend page at http://www.snopes.com.

Thanks.

What "real life"? Did you actually go to the web page?
There is nothing "real" about it. It's just sensationalistic
nonsense. Snuff films are an urban legend. No law enforcement
agency anywhere has ever located a real one.
