version. Apparantly, fan edits are big stuff now, and there are a lot in the
horror field. Some are extreme, cutting out almost everything and many making
some horrible decisions. Others sound more interesting. I've only seen a couple,
but thought I'd open it up here and see what people think of these. There is much
more detail in the actual links, including exactly what was cut or added and why.
Many of my notes are made just by reading what was done and not having seen the
final films. So, it's not a final judgement.

What is it about? This avoids the turn to social criticism the movie took in its

featurettes about Alien. No2 is a fan-edit of the film ALIEN which interpolates
all exisiting deleted scenes and a variety of unseen footage and unused score
cues to create a version that runs considerably longer than both the 1979
theatrical release and the 2003 director’s cut.

However, my feelings towards the very controversial season 6 are, well...

What is it about? decided to expand my favorite Friday The 13th film… The Final
Chapter by editing it together with some of my favorite parts of some of the
other films in the series. The film basically follows Jason as he makes his way
to Crystal Lake and kills anyone who crosses his path, though it also focuses on
Tommy Jarvis (as none of Corey Feldman’s scenes are cut). Chris of part 3 is only
a minor character and I deleted all references to her meeting Jason prior to 3
(which means his unmasking after being hung and her saying, “it’s you!” are cut
as well). The body count is extremely high and the kills are extremely gory (just
like I like them)!

New Combine Running Time: 135 mins

MY TAKE: So it's THE FINAL CHAPTER with a bunch of kills from the other original
nine films (excluding JASON X probably) added in? Uh, yeah okay. If anyone wants

CHAPTER. Might be interesting as the films do sort of bleed into each other, no
pun intended. Didn't like the original.

What is it about? I had to remove all (well, MOST anyway!) of the bad acting, cut
out the second half of the episode as it goes in a different direction and add
lots of little touches such as music from the first NOES film, proper movie
edits, and ofcourse, the widescreen bars. I made lots of changes and overall I
feel this accurately portrays Freddy’s backstory in an enjoyable 25 minute short.

MY TAKE: Re-editing Freddy's origin story from FREDDY'S NIGHTMARES sounds like an

the problem for me with fan edits is that someone, somewhere, presumes they
know better.
better than the professionals.
now maybe sometimes they do, but with a fan edit you can't really do a real
edit - you can take away bits you dont like, but you cant edit in the
alternate takes and extra filmed bits that you think are needed - not unless
there's a few scraps on the extra features of a dvd.
therefore, every fan edit i have ever seen is just the same old movie with
25 minutes missing.
